de dannede elementer er celler, cellerester og cellefragmenter i blodet. røde blodlegemer (RBC ‘ er eller erythrocytter) udgør mere end 95% af de dannede elementer.

fordi de mangler en kerne og organeller, er de fleste RBC ‘ er i blodbanen ikke fuldt funktionelle celler. I stedet tjener de som midlertidige, hæmoglobinfyldte beholdere, der transporterer ilt gennem kroppen.
også inkluderet i de dannede elementer er fem typer hvide blodlegemer (leukocytter eller leukocytter). De er en del af immunsystemet, og det hjælper med at beskytte kroppen mod udenlandske angribere. VBC ‘ erne identificeres og klassificeres ud fra deres farvede udseende.

de smallede dannede elementer kaldesblodplader (trombocytter). Disse er faktisk cytoplasmatiske fragmenter, der klemmer fra store celler kaldet megakaryocytter. Fosfolipider frigivet fra blodplader hjælper med at starte koagulationsprocessen.
